Pranita & Bardhi's Wedding in Scottsdale Arizona

With COVID still looming over the world we are all slowly adjusting to a new way of celebrating momentous events with less of our loved ones present and social distancing. Navigating new guidelines with ease and understanding proved to be exactly what our amazing team of vendors were able to do for Pranita and Bardhi’s modified wedding. We were honored to be one of the select few to capture this great day so that our lovely couple will be able to share the memories with family and friends who could not attend.

SkyPoint Productions live streamed all the ceremony and reception for everyone not in attendance to still be a part of the celebrations. Crafted cuisine provided a delicious vegetarian menu while Poppies Flower Shop and Innerspace design added their touches in personalizing the always beautiful Hyatt to the couples vision. Purvi’s henna talent and Ahesia’s make-up artistry ensured the bride was radiant as possible. Special thanks to Priya and TruElegance who worked extremely hard over the last two weeks to bring everything together allowing us to capture these memories for the Pranita, Bardhi and their families.

As parts of the country lift stay-at-home orders, many small businesses are starting to plan their reopening.

We want to take a moment to outline our plan for reopening to help our clients, employees and vendor partners understand what to expect when working with Santiago Almada Photography.

We are excited to get back to doing what we love, documenting the most important moments in our clients’ lives and working with incredible couples, families, and vendors. However, we also know that in order to do so safely, we must follow our state and federal guidelines.

How to hold a wedding during the Coronavirus

Weddings are the accumulation of years of searching for true love and months of planning how to fulfill this love in the bond of marriage. Before giving the ultimate answer at the altar every couple must thus pass one final litmus test by preparing and organizing this most important party of parties.

What happens to all that blood, sweat and tears now that the COVID-19 – aka the coronavirus – is sowing uncertainty around the country? Can you do that and still hold a wedding?

Wedding during COVID-19

Through all cultures and religions one shared tradition stands as a common pillar of life: The wedding, a celebration of love, unions of families, and the beginning of a new life adventure.

Postpone if you can

My advice will above all be to postpone your full wedding or only hold the ceremony and reschedule the reception if you can. We realize for some couples this option does not come without high costs - practical, emotional and even more so financial. Many of our couple have worked so hard, saved for months and even taken on large loans in order to celebrate their love with family and friends.

Surely, these people are asking: Do we absolutely have to postpone? Unfortunately, I cannot answer that for you. I can however give you some suggestions on how to hold a modified wedding during this health crisis. First and foremost is the necessity to understand you are most likely not going to have the same wedding you have been dreaming and planning for.

The second thing to keep in mind is that whatever you do, you cannot eliminate the risk of guests or yourselves being infected with the coronavirus, however with careful preparation and precautions you can minimize it as much as possible.

Guest – who to invite in times of coronavirus?

As of the 15th of march the CDC advises Americans to avoid gatherings of more than 50 people. This has now been decreased even further to gatherings of 10 or less people. For every extra person attending the risk of contagion goes up by a multiple factor. So how do you go about shortening this list that is no doubt already cut to the most essential of friends and family?

First and foremost, by asking who is at most risk? According to the CDC and a professor in epidemiology Michael Osterholm this is:

  • The elderly

  • People with heart disease

  • Diabetes patients

  • Those who suffer from lung diseases

  • People with obesity

  • Women late in their late pregnancies

On top of that small children are also considered an extra risk factor for the most vulnerable. They can carry the virus without showing symptoms and thereby pass it along to others. Small children will also have difficulties with obeying to the rules of social distancing. More on that below.

The next thing to consider is those who need to travel by plane, train, bus, or other forms of public transit. Many of these forms of transport may close soon if not already restricted to essential travel. These guests should be contacted and asked to stay home for their own safety. None of this will be easy, but it’s all about protecting families and friends from being infected or spreading the virus to other more vulnerable loved ones. I have no doubt your guests will not only be understanding but also glad you’re thinking of them and allowing them to stay home.

How to minimize the spread of COVID-19 at a wedding

“Wash your hands, wash your hands, wash your hands”. This seems to be the mantra on everyone’s mind these days. As it should. This is the first step in preventing the virus from spreading. So, keep plenty of hand sanitizers around at your wedding and make sure there is access to running water and soap.

Social distancing seems to be the buzz word advocated by health officials. It basically means keeping a fair distance from people, since the coronavirus spreads through the small bubbles of saliva that comes out into the air, when a person coughs, sneezes or even when talking. The CDC recommends at least 6 feet of distance, this is believed to be far enough to allow those bubbles to drop to the earth and not be inhaled by others. So what does that look like?

Avoiding physical contact: no handshakes, hugs, or kissing. During the ceremony all the guests should sit with their immediate household and be standing or sitting within at least six feet from each other. Outdoor venues at this time would be the highest recommendation for this type of spacing to be possible.

Having fun while social distancing at a wedding

Some fun alternatives to meet, greet, and communicate with each other can be a fun game for your guests. Exaggerated bowing for the newlyweds as if they were royal, made up sign language, or even writing quick little notes on dry erase boards.

The shoe game is a great way to have fun with guests requiring no contact. Allow each guest to shout out a question. Another idea is to create a scavenger hunt for guests. Teams can be made up of immediate households and send them on their way to discover little things about you as a couple they may not have known or about how each of them has influenced your lives, charades is another tried and true game.

It’s all about using your imagination, google is also a great resource check out this link I came across:  http://www.partygamespond.com/tag/no-physical-contact/

I’ll address the question about face masks here to let you know this is really not recommended due to the severe short supplies. Hospitals and healthcare workers all over the world are in desperate need of masks. So I will not encourage you to buy masks for yourself or guests.

The value of sharing your wedding photos

The shortened guest list leaves you with a smaller wedding, and there’s no doubt that you expected to share this joyous occasion with families and friends in person. Photos and videos can be a way to still have some essence of that.

A professional photographer will ensure that all of your unique moments on this marvelous day forever will be saved just as you remember them. Quality images to be shared with family now and enjoyed for many years from now.  Images to share with your friends and family that could not be there for the wedding or ceremony. Images to take you back to your wedding as if it was yesterday no matter how long ago it took place.

Speak with your photographer about options they are offering at this time. Personally we’re again recommending postponement of the entire wedding. In cases where that is just not an option speak with your photographer about: print credits towards albums, wall art, gift albums or other printed services they may offer. For those with two photographers, ask if yours offers video and would be willing to do both as the wedding party and events will likely be cut short. For those who are really wanting to go through with the ceremony, an elopement style wedding in an open nature setting with just the two of you would be recommended again asking about print credits to make up for the shorter hours of coverage.

If you’re able to postpone your wedding date, check that your photographer is still free that day and if not what other options they are providing to their clients. Personally here at Santiago Almada Photography we are extremely happy to say we’ve been able to accommodate all rescheduling requests for our couples. Upon availability we are also able to offer video in addition to photography for our couples opting to have a shorter ceremony over postponing their big day. This video will be edited and available via an online link to be shared with all friends and family.

Contact your vendor

No doubt some changes have already been discussed with your vendors and modifications have been made. If not it is always better to start now even if your wedding is not within the next few weeks.  Communication with all your vendors is key in trying to maximize options and minimize losses.

Finding another location

Regarding the venue, if they haven’t cancelled on you already there is a likely risk that they soon will while COVID-19 is deemed a national emergency. Therefore, you may need to find an alternative venue, be sure to speak with your venue about alternatives if they are closing for the time being. Our top suggestions would be something outdoors, a close family or friends back yard, a public park that’s not closed, somewhere open with fresh air.  For those that might opt to just do the ceremony eloping to a near-by hike or treasured location should be considered.

Under the stars The Views at Superstition

Keep everything clean

Wherever your wedding ends up being held be sure to give every surface, chair, tables, piece of metal, wood, etc a thorough cleaning before and after the wedding. If you are still able to host in a venue they will more than likely already be planning for this. Having a team cleaning surfaces, door knobs and the like during the party is also not a terrible idea.

What about food?

Food is another big ticket item surrounding weddings. This is such a fundamental part of all social events. If you were already planning a sit down dinner this is probably still an acceptable way to go just be mindful not to have any self serve breads, candies, drinks etc on the tables. Some other options might be:

  • A staffed buffet, where the guest will be served by a staff member

  • Food trucks

  • Not serving any meals at all, especially if opting to elope and have the reception later

Again be sure to speak with your vendor to see what other ideas and options they are offering to clients.

Keep your guests posted

Whatever modifications you make for your wedding day, keep it your own and have fun with it, don’t forget to also update your guests on any changes.

Whatever changes you make to your wedding, be it a smaller guest list, shortened program, only doing the ceremony, changing your venue or less glamour, we are with all our couples in feeling your disappointment. We hope your day of days will be no less magical and filled with love.

Disclaimer: This article is not a recommendation that you by all means should hold the wedding. It’s a list of suggestions for those, who for some reason or another choose not to postpone. Likewise, this article must neither be regarded as a complete guide, legal advise, or as suggestions of a professional healthcare worker. I’m a wedding photographer, and what’s suggested above is based on my years of experience in this field combined with what certified expert sources are saying about the coronavirus. I highly recommend that you consult a doctor for more thorough advice. I will make it clear, that if you decide to continue with your wedding, and some of the party unfortunately becomes ill, I cannot be held responsible for anything. The burden of this decision falls solely on you and your partner.

Adrian & Yessenia's Wedding in Mexico

I can’t even begin to speak about how grateful I am to have had the opportunity to cover my long time friends wedding in my hometown. Adrian and I met in middle school, becoming close friends in college after many adventures together in Puerto Vallarta. I was beyond delighted to meet his fiance, Yessenia, and even more so when they asked me to be their wedding photographer.

Mexico destination wedding

I can’t even begin to speak about how grateful I am to have had the opportunity to cover my long time friends wedding in my hometown. Adrian and I met in middle school, becoming close friends in college after many adventures together in Puerto Vallarta. I was beyond delighted to meet his fiance, Yessenia, and even more so when they asked me to be their wedding photographer. I knew it was going to be a heartfelt occasion full of old friends and two wonderful families coming together.

Hotel el Rancho, Navojoa Sonora Mexico.

Hotel el Rancho, Navojoa Sonora Mexico.

Yessenia and Adrian met in Navajoa, Sonora Mexico through mutual friends eight years ago. She is from Obregon which is an hour from Navojoa where Adrian and I grew up. They started dating on April 5, 2013 after being friends for a while. The date means so much that they had it engraved into the wedding rings. It was when Yessenia knew she had found her forever, and waited patiently for Adrian to pop the question. Adrian knew Yessenia was the one when he had to leave for work for over a year and she waited for him. During the time they dated, two of the six years were spent apart. I think many of us can appreciate the struggle that long distance can create in a relationship.

Mexico Destination Wedding - 9.jpg

They persevered through those two years finding ways to get closer and appreciate each other even more from being apart. Adrian chose a beautiful night in August, 2018 to take Yessenia to the beach in San Carlos and ask her the question she already knew would come one day. On the beach with the help of all their closest friends, Adrian surprised Yessenia not only with a ring but also a fireworks show! She had no idea it was coming or that all their friends were in on the surprise. The next year would continue to be full of surprises from both sides as they planned their wedding. Yessenia met up with Adrian in Phoenix where they stayed with my wife and me before returning to Navajoa for the wedding. Adrian felt so loved that she would come to the states for the first time by herself to meet him. It made the trip back home the best one he’s ever made.

The day of the wedding Adrian sent Yessenia flowers with a message letting her know that he’d be waiting for her at the altar.

Mexico Destination Wedding - 5.jpg

Adrian really tested Yessenia’s patience when he told her he forgot to book a band for their post wedding party. Then he surprised her with one of her favorite bands. Her face lit up when Repoquitos showed up with all 12 members and immediately got the crowd dancing.

Heather and I couldn’t have asked for a more perfect weekend to be home with my family and watch our dear friends get married. Keep scrolling to see some of our favorite moments from the wedding day. Special thanks to all the vendors that did such an amazing job to bring their dream wedding to life: Hotel El Rancho (getting ready/first look), First Class (venue), Hollman Band (mariachi, violin, and DJ), Andy Garcia (food), Manuel Quintero (flowers), and Pasteles de Luzma (cake).

The Views at Superstition

The Views at Superstition is a wedding ceremony and wedding reception venue that I hold close to my heart for so many reasons. From being one of the first venues to take me on as a preferred vendor when I was a baby wedding photographer, all the way to going above and beyond to make my very own wedding more than I could have ever imagined.

The Views at Superstition Wedding

This is a wedding ceremony and reception venue that I hold close to my heart for so many reasons. To start, it is one of the first venues to take me on as a preferred vendor when I was a baby wedding photographer. They also went above and beyond expectations to make my wedding more than I could have ever imagined. As a result, Tracy, Diane and Terri have become family over the years.

Best wedding photographer AZ

Tracy started the business back in 2008, added Diane in 2011 and then Terri in 2012. Together they create a dream team for weddings from start to finish. All three take a personal interest not just in your wedding, but in you as a couple to help create the wedding of your dreams. At our own wedding, Diane even pulled out an iron to press our table runners! She wanted to make sure they were perfect. I remember laughing as I thought they looked good already, but her standards were not yet met. Later at the wedding reception, our family commented on how beautiful the runners were.

Bride getting ready details

This attention to details are what make The Views at Superstition a superlative choice…even over some of the other wedding reception venues I have worked at over the years. With this team, my clients are always more than happy with their photos and the overall experience. And if that isn’t enough reason to check out this wedding venue, let's talk about the location.

The Views at Superstition Wedding Venue

The Views at Superstition Wedding Venue

How often do you walk into a wedding reception venue and have to stop to catch your breath as you find yourself awestruck by the view? The location in the Superstition Mountains leaves nothing to be desired when it comes to a majestic backdrop enhanced by our dramatic Arizona sunsets. It doesn’t matter if your guests are inside listening to the music and admiring the view from the floor to ceiling windows, or standing outside enjoying a cocktail on the balcony. They will never forget The Views. The versatility of having not one but two outdoor balconies on top of the large ballroom allows you and your guests to find comfort all evening. As a wedding photographer, I've loved using these areas for first looks, license signing, and group shots during getting ready. Another huge plus about The Views at Superstition is that along with a Bridal Suite, they also have a Groom Suite. Both are perfectly stocked to have all the space/mirrors (for the ladies) and large screen TV/couches (for the gentlemen) either party will need. This is great for the couple who want to be on site without seeing each other or feeling too crowded. As a photographer I love using the different areas for capturing genuine moments between families as they go between the two suites. It’s often a time to swap the funny or embarrassing baby stories about the couple or how everyone met. These moments are what you and your guests will look back on when remembering this big day.

Wedding Photographer in Phoenix

The Views at Superstition Wedding

The actual venue can be used for wedding ceremonies and receptions with the ballroom or the balcony for either. For those who want the reception at a separate location from the ceremony, there are multiple locations off site, but still close by. And here’s the best part. The staff at The Views will set up both locations. This way you don’t have to worry about finding a second staff. It’s an immense relief to only work with one crew if an off-site ceremony is what you are looking for. We also love it when our bride and groom have an arch for the ceremony site that is then placed in the reception hall over their table. This is something Tracy’s team has done multiple times. They even have a nearby church for indoor summer ceremonies that they can coordinate with you and the pastor.

The Bridge Site

The bridge site is the closest out-door wedding ceremony location that is on the premises. It’s located directly behind the building upon lush green grass with the Superstitions as a backdrop and romantic waterfront in the foreground. This is often where we get beautiful formals of the couple while guests enjoy a cocktail hour just before the grand entrance.

The Views at Superstition Under the Stars

If these options still don’t quite match your dream, Tracy has started offering one more location for both ceremony and reception! This week we had the immense pleasure of joining her and her amazing team for the grand opening of the new Under the Stars Venue. This site, also known as the tree location, has been used for ceremonies in the past. It is now being expanded to include a reception site. Surrounded by the Superstition Mountains, the new venue is picture perfect for anyone who loves being outdoors. Walking up to the location brought back memories of my own wedding day. Seeing it set-up for not only the ceremony but also a reception was lovely. We arrived on site to the soft warm glow of bistro lights and the captivating view of the sunset over the mountains. The dark wooden tables, off set by the golden runners and candle light reflecting off the glassware, made for such a romantic intimate feel to the entire scene. This new location is going to be an unforgettable experience for our clients. We can’t wait to start photographing under the stars!

Photoshoot in Seattle Washington

My wife Heather and I got the opportunity to spend some time in Seattle visiting with friends and taking a break from the heat of Arizona. We were delighted at the opportunity to be a Seattle portrait photographer when Rich and Deva expressed interest in having a photoshoot.

Seattle Photoshoot

Engagement photos Seattle.jpg

My wife Heather and I got the opportunity to spend some time in Seattle to take a break from the Arizona heat and visit with friends. We were also delighted to have the opportunity to be a Seattle portrait photographer when Rich and Deva expressed an interest in a photo shoot.

Rich, originally from New York, and Deva from Southern Oregon, are a happy, expressive couple who met in Seattle, Washington. Because both of them couldn’t stop smiling the entire time, the photo shoot was easy, laid back and fun. We started the shoot among the charming multi level, colorful homes in Wallingford. This is a busy little residential neighborhood on the North Shore of Lake Union.

From there, we took a short drive to Gas Works Park, a well known historical landmark in the area. While it started out in 1906 as a plant used to gasify coal, it is now used as a beautiful park to fly kites, watch fireworks and enjoy concerts. It’s also a great place to just relax and watch water crafts float on by.

Destination Wedding.jpg

This park is so unique in the sense that it still contains the remnants of an old plant…which makes it a striking industrial background juxtaposed with calm rolling hills of grass and cute ducks. We took the time to thoroughly explore it with our eyes, taking in the captivating strangeness and contemplating another time period. Then we turned around to be hit with one of the clearest panoramic views of the Seattle skyline. The location was perfect for Rich and Deva- who are so different in their own ways- yet come together to create a union anyone could envy

After hanging out at the park we decided to stroll down Troll Avenue and visit the well known Fremont Troll. We were all saddened to see that someone had taken it upon themselves to deface this well loved, folklore come to life sculpture. Luckily Deva and Rich are as flexible as they are resourceful and we were able to enjoy the area around the troll under the bridge.

Traffic ceased at just the right moment for, arguably one of the best photos, where Rich picked Deva up and started spinning with her. After taking a break to eat and let the rain slow down, Deva and Rich changed clothes and we headed down to Pike’s Public Market. The wet streets created an awesome backdrop for my favorite part of the shoot.

Again the traffic was in our favor as we were running backwards in the crosswalk. With me shooting and Heather holding the light, we captured some candid photos of the two of them just walking and holding hands.

We finished the shoot overlooking the great wheel on the Seattle waterfront. While my primary focus is being a destination wedding photographer, it’s nice to branch out and get my feet wet with a Seattle lifestyle photography shoot.

We want to thank Deva and Rich again for being so awesome to hang out with and allowing us to create such a great shoot.

Over the weekend Santiago Almada Photography had the pleasure of being a vendor and showcasing our work (see slideshow below) at the 10th annual DB Bridal Expo. Held at the Arizona Grand Resort and Spa, and hosted by Shy Khan with Weddings By Shy, the expo is said to be the largest South Asian Bridal Show in the West.

While bridal shows are a great opportunity for couples and their families to meet and greet, taste, sample, and see products from vendors all over the area. It's also great for vendors to do the same. Having the opportunity to meet and greet vendors from all over the area is a great way to build relationships and make a stronger community.

These shows remind us of how lucky we are to have a diverse and vibrant body of supportive vendors who work together to give our clients the best experience possible. During the expo we took the time to get to know our new clients, catch-up with past families, and mingle with some new vendors. We felt we connected with a few who really stuck out and wanted to highlight them in a blog to share their stories.

Kendra's Country Bakery

Kendra's Country Bakery

Kendra's Country Bakery

Kendra with Kendra’s Country Bakery was the first vendor to approach our table and say hi while we were still setting up. Kendra not only invited us to sample her cakes from her wedding bakery, but asked if we needed anything. When we made it over to her booth, we met with a team of super friendly staff. They shared a lot of information about this family owned business based out of Payson.

Kendra’s Country Bakery has been creating customized wedding cakes in the community for over 10 years and went statewide 2 years ago. When asked how this idea for a business started, Kendra shared her story about cooking with her grandparents at an early age. She realized how much she enjoyed baking. From the cake to the frosting everything is homemade. They even offer vegan and gluten free options. The Vegan Chai was one of the most memorable tasty flavors we’ve ever tried!

In addition to their work at the bakery, Kendra and a few of the other ladies go out in the community to give back. They volunteer their time to teach women and families that have been affected by domestic violence. This includes baking skills as well as tutoring and feeding children in need. They enjoy the work as it gives these families a break from what might be a very stressful situation to just having fun.

If you’re interested in meeting this wonderful group, click here to visit their website. They offer individual hour long tastings at their wedding cake shops for up to four people. This allows you enough time to sample four cakes of your choice with all the frostings to mix and match for the perfect combination.

Mr Formal Tuxedo and Suit Rentals & Sales

We met Patricia with Mr. Formal, Fashions for men who was kind enough to answer a question I'm sure she gets a lot:

“When it comes to wedding outfits for men, what’s the difference between a tuxedo and a suit?”

We learned a lot about male wedding fashion including when to wear a bow-tie versus a long tie.

As it turned out, Shy’s husband (Shy is the show organizer), along with a few other men at the expo were sporting her jackets. We were pleasantly surprised to find out that she was also one of the vendor participants in the second fashion show. The men looked amazing in her formal wear. Patricia let us know that all her male wedding fashions are readily available to try on at her store. Just be sure to plan ahead! To see her trending male wedding outfits and everything else Mr. Formal has to offer, check out her website.

Nazila Couture

Nazila Couture was the vendor booth directly in front of ours and it was popping the entire show! The booth was so inviting that women couldn’t help but compliment the designer on her Indian bridal jewelry sets. Then they would walk in to pick up a dress off the rack, hold it up in the mirror and admire the garments.

We watched Nazila chat with each lady individually, helping them to not only find the perfect piece but also to accessorize them with the latest South Indian bridal jewelry. Who better to help with that then the designer herself? Each woman walked out of her booth with the biggest smile on her face.

During the second fashion show we got a chance to chat with Nazila and were blown away to learn about her creations. Each collection is inspired by a true story. One is about the famous “Afgan Girl” with the beautiful eyes who graced the cover of National Geographic in 1984. This collection has fabric with beautiful eyes creatively worked into each piece.

The story behind the ‘Hidden Treasures’ collection is another fantastic tale. In this case, a grave site was accidentally unearthed. Upon extensive research, it was found to be the burial spot for a king and queen. The collection includes a top that Nazila creatively designed - a hand embroidered skull. Upon first glance you only notice the lovely detailed handiwork. With a closer inspection you start to see the shape. It’s fascinating when you finally realize it’s a skull.

This is the first time we’ve had the privilege to meet a designer and get such an awesome one on one story behind a collection.

Arizona Grand - 76.jpg

On top of that, Nazila told us that she strives to have a sustainable company that repurposes and uses recycled materials whenever possible. Another eye catching piece has a component over 80 years old from Afghanistan that was repurposed into the garment as an ornate neckline. Nazila also does custom pieces with one on one consults in two ways: she allows you to pick out all the materials, then prices it based on your budget. She works within that to create your vision. Check out her website to see some of these collections along with her other South Asian attire.

Arbonne

While walking around before the doors opened, we were invited to check out Cirina’s booth of Arbonne products. We personally hadn’t heard of their products. However, I have since read some Arbonne reviews from happy clients. Cirina was extremely informative on the extensive line of not only cosmetics but also nutritional items. She emphasized that the products are not tested on animals and contain all natural vegan ingredients. She let us know that many of her clients with food sensitivities, especially celiacs disease, find the Arbonne line does not cause discomfort common with other brands.

As photographers at the show, the question of scars came up. As it turns out, Cirina has a background in nursing included working for a plastic surgeon. She told us that Arbonne has a healing oil used by many of her clients who have scars. Some receive radiation therapy and the oil helps hydrate and protect the skin after treatments. Crinia really likes the Arbonne line due to what she calls its holistic approach to developing its cosmetic and nutrition line. They focus on not just what's happening on the outside, but also what's going on inside. Cirina was very personable and we were delighted to have had the opportunity to speak with her.

Arizona Grand - 40.jpg

Often times at an Expo like this, as a vendor manning a booth, we watch guests walk by with delicious looking plates of food talking about how good this or that dish is, hoping to get the opportunity to also try the food. The Indian wedding food we saw at the DB Bridal Expo was no different, however his was the first time that a food vendor actually approached us with a plate inviting us to try their food. Josh informed us he recently started working with Curry & Scoop and Tikka Bistro (both located in Tempe, Arizona) while giving us a plate of Channa Masala, Tikka Masala with Paneer (Indian Cottage Cheese), white rice, and naan. The Tikka Masala at first is slightly sweet and as you eat it the spice began to build making it a really fun dish for your palate. We found the spice to be perfect, not so hot that you couldn't enjoy the dish but also not so muted that it was too sweet. Neither indian wedding dish was extremely salty which we find to be a problem with some curry dishes. The Naan was warm and perfect for soaking up the leftover sauce from the masalas. We have a feeling a lot of people would agree with our opinion as they were completely out of food by the end of the expo. We would have loved to capture a photo of them in action. We will be stopping by their Tempe Arizona location one day to try some of the other dishes, especially some of the ice cream flavors we’ve never heard of but look so good on their website menu.

Fieldwork Phoenix

Probably the most unique booth we found was two really nice women representing Fieldwork Phoenix. After a brief conversation we learned that it’s a fairly large company with multiple locations around the US. Their primary focus is on connecting businesses with real people using their products for research. People get paid for their time and companies get real input on changes and ideas they are working out. The types of research and opinions wanted seem to be a wide variety. Sessions on average are 2 hours with compensation ranging from $75 - $150. It can be anything from asking parents to use a diaper brand for two weeks to a company trying to decide what type of packaging to use on their products. The goal is to get thoughts, likes and dislikes of the products being tested. While we don’t have personal experience with a company like this, we wanted to share the information as it sounds like an interesting way to have your opinion heard, beta test a new product, try a new food, and make a little bit of extra money on the side.

RAJ TENT

The last vendor that we had the brief opportunity to chat with was Maurice and Christina, a lovely couple who own https://www.rajtents.com/.  Honestly, we wish we would have had more time to get to know them as a couple.

We felt an air of relaxation and tranquility immediately upon sitting under their vibrant orange and fuchsia Raj Tent. It’s amazing how calming it was despite all the hustle and bustle at such a wonderfully busy bridal show. When we asked if they shipped all over the country, we learned that they don’t just ship around the country, but all over the world. We can’t even imagine the logistical work that goes into such a large venture. They have a trained crew of people dedicated to traveling and setting up tents all over.

It was really inspiring to read how much their business has grown since its creation in 2004 and have been included in dozens of magazines, movies, and TV shows. Even more impressive is how all of the tents are hand-made. I can imagine how proud anyone would be of such a beautiful piece of art.  It must also be fulfilling to know how many people get to use and appreciate something so intricately designed. We look forward to working an event where the decor and Indian Wedding tent rentals are supplied by Raj Tents.

Shivani & Sagar's Wedding

As the sun’s warm rays engulfed the morning of Shivani and Sagar’s wedding day, there was no doubt that it was going to be beautiful from the very beginning. Family and friends had gathered from all over to celebrate the couple’s special event in the beautiful desert city of Scottsdale. Indian weddings in Phoenix are always exciting, but when we saw the details that had gone into Shivani and Sagar’s preparations, there was no doubt it would be an event to remember!

Henna.jpg

Scottsdale Phoenix Photographer.jpg

Shivani was donned in glorious red and gold attire, complete with accessories that showcased the bold red color, all while accentuating it with dark greens and soft creams. Intricate henna detailing decorated her arms, and it was obvious that she was ready to take on the day! But her smile and happiness was what really stole the show, and when the groom saw his bride for the first time, it was crystal clear she completely captured his heart once again. Speaking of the groom, his attire was striking as well; mirroring the gold and red theme of his bride, while bringing his own touch with a fantastic, bright red turban, and accessories.

Shivani and Sagar decided to do a first look shoot, and we are so glad they did! They were all smiles even before they laid eyes on each other and the photos that were captured during those precious moments turned out beautifully. We couldn’t have asked for better lighting, or better models, for this experience; the warm smiles and atmosphere were breathtaking. These instances where the bride and groom first came together on their special day will forever be frozen in time for the two to enjoy always.

Indian wedding photographer in Phoenix.jpg

When it came to choosing a vendor for Shivani and Sagar’s wedding day, they couldn’t possibly have chosen a more perfect location. The Gainey Ranch Scottsdale matched the theme of the wedding flawlessly and added a special touch of magic to the event. Thanks to the palm trees, quaint balconies, and natural foliage that decorated the Hyatt Regency Scottsdale Resort & Spa (where most of the festivities took place) so much extra personality to the already wonderful set up. As the wedding excitement began, family and friends celebrated the couple with music, laughter, and of course, dancing; which the large courtyard outside the resort and spa offered the perfect amount of space for.

Hyatt Scottsdale 2.jpg

The ceremony took place outdoors under the sun, with rows and rows of crisp white chairs inviting the guests to take their seats and await the big moment. A long white runner marked the path for the bride and groom to the altar, and their mandap was picture perfect; complete with soft cream draping and pink flowers. We could have taken pictures of all the gorgeous details for days, and we are so honored to have been a part of Shivani and Sagar’s special day. From the beginning to the end, this Indian Phoenix wedding was an experience full of love, light, and happiness; which we wish for this beautiful couple for the rest of their days!

Sedona, a breathtaking destination wedding site in Arizona

Sedona is one of our most prized destination wedding photography sites in Arizona. It’s a well known area to Arizona locals but not always known to visitors. There are so many breathtaking locations to choose from it’s always hard to narrow down the perfect spot for a wedding shoot.

Sedona destination wedding

Cathedral Rock Wedding.jpg

Sedona is one of our most prized destination wedding photography sites in Arizona. It’s a well known area to Arizona locals but not always known to visitors. There are so many breathtaking locations to choose from it’s always hard to narrow down the perfect spot for a wedding shoot. I was so delighted when Deepa and Robert agreed to allow me to photograph them at Tlaquepaque and even more so when they were up to the challenge of hiking Cathedral Rock. We felt both these locations would allow us to showcase their unique style mix of classic fairy tale with bold and dramatic adventure.

We started our epic day at Tlaquepaque, a shopping area inspired by the beautiful town in Mexico with the same name. It’s beautiful archways, ivy covered balconies, pops of color from Mexico inspired tiles and beautiful large wooden rustic doorways make for a very classic backdrop that feels as if you have been transported to another place in time. A time where everything was a little slower, more majestic, and had a fairy tale quality. The lighting down the long archways with pillars gave me the perfect setting to play with natural light in a way that really allowed me to capture the glow on Deepa’s face when she looks at Robert. We were having so much fun that it caught the attention of a carpet store owner Azadi Fine Rugs who graciously offered us the use of one of his carpets which we found to be very sweet.

After Tlaquepaque the real adventure began as we got ready to hike to our next destination. Cathedral Rock is more of a rock climb than a hike. It’s 1.5 mile round trip description seems easy until you realize that it’s almost entirely uphill. Halfway to the top there is a steep crevice where it requires both hands and feet to scale, many people stop and turn back out of fear. Deepa and Robert didn’t let that stop them.

Tlaquepaque Engagement.jpg

They came prepared with backpacks to hold their Indian wedding attire so they could attack this climb head on not worrying about getting dirty. We hiked all the way to the top where they were able to find a small area to change. The top of the hike is nestled between two larger peaks and this unique formation gives almost a 360 degree view of beautiful Sedona backdrops to choose from. At one point Deepa sat down on a ledge and lost her shoe, Robert was able to retrieve the shoe and place it back on his bride’s foot like a modern day prince with his Cinderella. As we started to end our day on the top of Cathedral Rock, wrapped up in capturing beautiful moments, losing all track of time we realized none of us brought a head lamp. Nonetheless we made it to the bottom using our phones and were rewarded with a breathtaking view of the stars. Improvising using a light stand for a tripod I was able to capture one of my favorite unexpected moments of Deepa and Robert arm in arm walking to the car with the stars shining over head.

I am so grateful for the trust that Deepa and Robert placed in me to take them on this Sedona Wedding adventure. I’m truly excited for all the adventures to come for this lovely couple and more so for having the honor to have captured the official start of what's going to be their most amazing adventure.

Wedding Photoshoot in Paris

In December of last year, we had the immense privilege of photographing the lovely Marc and Majda in Paris.

Destination wedding

In December of last year, we had the immense privilege of photographing the lovely Marc and Majda in Paris. Before we even met this couple, my wife and I had decided that we wanted to expand our horizons past our home in Phoenix, Arizona and travel the world more often. This would be the perfect opportunity to spread our wings and soar into the wonder that is destination weddings. We knew starting off that the entire process would take a lot of work and dedication, but the thrill and pay off would be well worth it! This statement was strongly solidified when, after a lot of inquiries to find the right couple, we had the opportunity to meet Marc and Majda.

These two lovebirds were so fun to work with and the photos that came from the session were just so perfect, I couldn’t wait to share them with everyone I could! Despite the cold weather we experienced at the time of the shoot, Marc and Majda were awesome through it all and couldn’t stop smiling as we went from location to location; including places such as the Eiffel Tower, Notre Dame, and the Louvre Museum. All the effort of lugging around my Canon EOS R + The Canon 200mm Prime f2 (along with all of the cameras’ accessories) was nothing compared to the joy I received from shooting this destination wedding.

Marc and Majda had a traditional Moroccan wedding shortly after these photos were taken and truly, I think this couple did wonderfully at encompassing the pure and beautiful relationship that they share, through these events. It is my hope that the photos which were captured as a result of their genuine love for each other will bring them joy for many years to come!

A dream come true at The Cottage

Nestled in the heart of Gilbert, Arizona, The Cottage is a place where dreams can come true and memories will be cherished forever.

The Cottage Venue

Nestled in the heart of Gilbert, Arizona, The Cottage is a place where dreams can come true and memories will be cherished forever. As an expansion from the already popular Zappone’s Italian Bistro, The Cottage was created with the intent of encompassing everything that the perfect wedding represents. With such a gorgeous backdrop, weddings that range from darling to daring, can find the perfect setting at The Cottage.

Zappones Bistro.jpg

Despite already being a picture perfect venue, The Cottage owners, Dina and Sal, have been working hard to make this location even more lavish. With a couple of recent renovations, there is no doubt that the cozy country cottage vibes bring their vision to life perfectly. The first new installment is an extension to the already lovely ballroom, allowing for more seating space and, of course, dancing! This area is gorgeous, with lots of natural lighting and beautiful wood floors that provide that elegant, yet simple, atmosphere.

But why stop at wood floors, when you can take the cottage feel to a completely new and unique level? That’s most likely what Dina and Sal asked themselves, and thus the idea of adding a wooden accent wall was born. This stunning addition is made up of warm and cool toned planks that truly bring a whole new life to the space. As photographers, we love the little extra spice this wall brings to the table settings and overall decor.

To tie everything together, the ballroom has received a specific dance area with tiled flooring. This is the perfect area for ensuring that all guests know exactly where to go when it’s time to crank up the music and celebrate! Overall, The Cottage is a wonderful location for any event. But when it comes to weddings, this cozy little spot is a dream come true.
