Seattle Photoshoot
My wife Heather and I got the opportunity to spend some time in Seattle to take a break from the Arizona heat and visit with friends. We were also delighted to have the opportunity to be a Seattle portrait photographer when Rich and Deva expressed an interest in a photo shoot.
Rich, originally from New York, and Deva from Southern Oregon, are a happy, expressive couple who met in Seattle, Washington. Because both of them couldn’t stop smiling the entire time, the photo shoot was easy, laid back and fun. We started the shoot among the charming multi level, colorful homes in Wallingford. This is a busy little residential neighborhood on the North Shore of Lake Union.
From there, we took a short drive to Gas Works Park, a well known historical landmark in the area. While it started out in 1906 as a plant used to gasify coal, it is now used as a beautiful park to fly kites, watch fireworks and enjoy concerts. It’s also a great place to just relax and watch water crafts float on by.
This park is so unique in the sense that it still contains the remnants of an old plant…which makes it a striking industrial background juxtaposed with calm rolling hills of grass and cute ducks. We took the time to thoroughly explore it with our eyes, taking in the captivating strangeness and contemplating another time period. Then we turned around to be hit with one of the clearest panoramic views of the Seattle skyline. The location was perfect for Rich and Deva- who are so different in their own ways- yet come together to create a union anyone could envy
After hanging out at the park we decided to stroll down Troll Avenue and visit the well known Fremont Troll. We were all saddened to see that someone had taken it upon themselves to deface this well loved, folklore come to life sculpture. Luckily Deva and Rich are as flexible as they are resourceful and we were able to enjoy the area around the troll under the bridge.
Traffic ceased at just the right moment for, arguably one of the best photos, where Rich picked Deva up and started spinning with her. After taking a break to eat and let the rain slow down, Deva and Rich changed clothes and we headed down to Pike’s Public Market. The wet streets created an awesome backdrop for my favorite part of the shoot.
Again the traffic was in our favor as we were running backwards in the crosswalk. With me shooting and Heather holding the light, we captured some candid photos of the two of them just walking and holding hands.
We finished the shoot overlooking the great wheel on the Seattle waterfront. While my primary focus is being a destination wedding photographer, it’s nice to branch out and get my feet wet with a Seattle lifestyle photography shoot.
We want to thank Deva and Rich again for being so awesome to hang out with and allowing us to create such a great shoot.
