Testing the MAGMOD Beauty Dish XL 20: A Game-Changer for Portrait Lighting
MAGMOD Beauty Dish XL 20
My Experience Testing the MAGMOD Beauty Dish XL 20
I had the honor of being invited by MAGMOD to test a new product—before it even hit the market. As someone who’s used MAGMOD gear throughout my entire wedding photography career, this was an exciting opportunity to not only get early hands-on experience but also to create content and provide feedback. The MAGMOD Beauty Dish XL 20 officially launched a few months after our test shoot.
What Makes It Special
The Beauty Dish XL 20 offers that perfect balance between softness and contrast. It gives skin a smooth, polished look while still maintaining depth and dimension. The falloff is natural, and the spread of light is incredibly flattering—ideal for everything from clean headshots to editorial-style portraits and integrates beautifully with the rest of the MAGMOD ecosystem.
Behind the Shoot
For this shoot, I paired the Beauty Dish XL 20 with a single strobe in a controlled studio setting. I wanted to see how it handled shadows, texture, and skin tones across a variety of poses and subjects. What stood out most was how sculptural the light felt—especially on the highlights and contours of the models’ faces and shoulders.
Why I Trust MAGMOD
From wedding ceremonies in the harsh Arizona sun to low-light ballrooms and creative portrait sessions like this one, MAGMOD has been by my side the whole way. Their modifiers help me work faster, more creatively, and with confidence that I can deliver consistent results for my clients.
Testing the Beauty Dish XL 20 only reinforced what I already knew: MAGMOD continues to innovate with photographers in mind.
