Why Engagement Photoshoots are Important

Why Engagement Sessions Matter More Than You May Think

Congratulations!

If you have found yourself on this page, it is most likely because you are recently engaged or well on your way to having that ever so important question bestowed upon you. This is such an exciting time and we are thrilled to share even a small part of it with you and that special someone.

Regardless of whether you’ve been engaged for a long time or since yesterday, there is a pretty good chance that you have heard about engagement photoshoots (also known as e-sessions by some). To give a little bit more context of what an e-session is, we like to describe them as small, intimate photo shoots that happen for engaged couples in a location(s) of their choice (outside, inside, at home, etc.).

Sounds pretty awesome right?

Although we agree, some may have a few doubts about engagement shoots. Wedding planning can already be crazy enough as it is, so why even bother with an extra photoshoot before the big day even comes around?

For those who have this question, and perhaps many more running through their heads when it comes to engagement sessions, the good news is that we have answers! Continue reading to discover what we believe to be the top 5 most important reasons why every new couple should consider booking an e-session.

1. You can get amazing images for your wedding announcements.

Have you ever opened up your mailbox and seen that perfectly quaint envelope from a friend that you just know contains a wedding invite? Upon pulling out the contents, an adorable card with gorgeous photos of the couple jumps out at you along with the joyous invitation to join them for their special day. Lots of times, these photos are captured during an engagement shoot. With the ability to highlight the engagement ring, showcase lovely scenery, and frame each bright smile from the happy couple, e-sessions are the absolute best for capturing high-quality images to use on such an invite or save the date of your own.

2. Get some practice in front of the camera.

For those who haven’t had much time in front of a lens, getting professional photos done can feel a bit intimidating- and that’s ok! Taking the time to get an engagement session done helps a couple to loosen up and practice poses that they love in order to get more comfortable for the big day. An excellent photographer is key in making photos go smoothly, but there is no doubt that practice makes progress- so don’t be afraid to book that e-session and get your lovebug out there for some fun photo exercises (the end result will be worth it, we promise)!

3. Become more familiar with your photographer.

If this is the first time interacting with your wedding photographer, e-sessions are a great way to learn how you can work together to accomplish your goals. Through utilizing Pinterest pages and examples of photo poses that you already love, you and your photographer can get a feel for a unique style that will fit your special day perfectly. Practicing this style during an engagement shoot can not only help you as a couple feel more confident, but it can also help to build that trust between your photographer as well- making the wedding day sessions even more of a breeze!

4. Create lifetime memories for an important milestone.

Getting engaged is a super important time for a couple! It is that big first step before fully committing that states “hey, I think you’re amazing and I want to spend my life with you”. For some couples, an engagement can last for many years, while for others just a few months at a time. Regardless of how long the engagement may last, taking photos to mark the memory of that first step is such a great way to build as a couple. One day, you can look back at those photos and compare them to your wedding (or even later anniversary photos) to see how much the two of you have grown together over time. It’s an extremely special and sweet tradition that can be wonderful to share with family and friends alike!

5. Deepen the bond between you and your partner in a fun way.

An engagement session may be the first time that you, as a couple, are getting professional photos taken. It’s like a super special date with a professional there to capture the two of you looking your best and feeling totally in love! Doesn’t that sound amazing? As you start out on your journey together, an e-session can be the perfect way to bond with your partner in one (or many) of your favorite areas. Take a few in that spot on the beach where you first met at sunset, then you could even jog on over to a little boutique where you received flowers for the first time, before finally heading home to capture a few quiet moments in a house that you are going to be (or have already been) making your own. It may surprise you just how much fun can be had simply by having your relationship captured on camera!

And there you have it.

While the simple act of an engagement session may seem small in comparison to the big day, there is no doubt in our minds that it is one of the most important parts of a total wedding experience. Taking the time to get more comfortable with the camera and your photographer while also bonding as a couple is so vital. Not only will the experience provide an opportunity to use the photos before the wedding as you see fit, but an e-session will also create that perfect little moment to embrace the one you love and celebrate the choice the two of you have made forever after.

So, get your engagement ring ready and that dream location set, we have memories to capture!
